They say that a dog is a man’s best friend for a reason as there are no words that are more true. Who’s there to greet you at the door everytime you come home? However, yesterday there was no need to leave your furry friend at home as it was ‘bring your dog to work day’.
Dogs have been man’s best friend since pre-historic times when they were domesticated. Since then, they have lived and worked alongside mankind in jobs like hunting, tracking, and guarding. To honour the companionship of dogs, Take Your Dog to Work Day is celebrated by hundreds of companies in the US and other countries as well.
Take Your Dog to Work Day is a powerful way to boost an owner’s mental health, and a dog’s overall health too. Surveys and studies show that pets in the workplace reduce stress and anxiety dramatically and boost productivity, co-worker relationships and teamwork.
One of our clients Yellow Dog Charity is campaigning in giving dogs the space and security that they need and they believe that making the Yellow Ribbon an accepted representation throughout the UK will benefit everyone and make dog walking a more enjoyable, and safer experience for all.
The yellow ribbon or bandana can be used for short periods – i.e. whilst a dog is in training or on heat – or longer periods – for example if a dog is elderly and does not like young lively dogs around him.
So on bring your dog to work day don’t only think about the benefits that it can give to you. Think about what benefits you can give back to your furry friend.
