Bit of a different story today but a must-read for metal (or music) fans!
The grammy-winning mixer/producer Andrew Scheps has been awarded an honourary doctorate for services to international music engineering from the University of Huddersfield.
While Schep’s may not immediately ring out as a recognisable name, he is no doubt the wizard behidn the scenes on many of your favourite projects. Perhaps best known for his engineering and mixing of rock icons Black Sabbath, Metallica, Linkin Park, and Green Day, Scheps has won Grammy for his work on Adele, RHCP, and Ziggy Marley albums.
Where can you find him today? Working at Huddersfield Uni’s Music and Audio Production (MAP) research group in the School of Computing and Engineering (obviously).
Dr Scheps was also awarded the title of Visiting Professor after a nomination by Dr Mark Mynett. The two are currently working together on the world’s first academically funded research project into ‘perceptual heavieness’ in music – backed by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council. The project? Heaviness in Metal Music Production. Hell yeah.
HiMMP will seek to answer the age old question… ‘What Makes Metal, Metal?’
