Saxophonist, Brandon Fields and pianist, Adam Hersh, have come together with the fantastic Michael Tinholme to bring you a new tribute of ‘God Bless the Child’ by the iconic, Billie Holiday, which was released in June 2022.
Tinholme’s version sees his smooth, silky singing underlined by Hersh’s masterful piano which can be appreciated in every second of this song. Fields’ impact is also evident with his saxophone shining through, giving this version an edge that we haven’t quite heard before.
As fans of Michael Tinholme may already suspect, his performance in this moving tribute is a fantastic display of not just his vocal ability, but also his creativity. Unlike any ‘God Bless the Child’ cover we have heard so far, Tinholme’s brilliance is that he can make music like this work to such a high standard compared to his peers, the smooth jazz feel gives this song a whole other side that we never knew was there.
There isn’t a Billie Holiday tribute this like this out there, and if you can find one, it’s doubtful it would reach the heights of what Tinholme, Fields and Hersh have made. Moving, smooth, engaging and exciting throughout, it’s a great tribute but also a fantastic piece of music in it’s own right that will only add to the respect that Michael Tinholme has already garnered throughout his career and the love that exists Billie Holiday’s original.
