Michael Tinholme and pianist Adam Hersh have collaborated on Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Moon River’, to bring us a fantastic tribute to a certified classic. Released in June of this year, the cover sees the pair expertly link up to bring us a tribute that speaks to the original in a way that we haven’t heard in years.
Tinholme’s vocal performance is elevated by Adam Hersh, who’s piano playing gives the band the perfect gentleness to follow which gives Tinholme the best platform to do what he does best. With fantastic vocals, amazing composition and a take that is original yet a moving tribute Hepburn’s classic, it’s safe to say that Michael Tinholme has hit the nail on the head again.
Fans of the original will not be disappointed to see a cover being released – they will be getting music that pays respect to the original, keeping in with the familiar style but also a unique song to love in it’s own right.
The performance by both Tinholme and Hersh is expert. The way they compliment each other’s sound is superb, with every note Hersh plays waiting on Tinholme’s every word. It’s a tribute that seeks to pay homage to the original, rather than reconstruct what the song originally did which is a testament to the ability of Tinholme, Hersh and the band.
Overall, it is a wonderful piece of music. Giving a composition that Hepburn’s original could work with but also keeping what made the original so iconic. Michael Tinholme has again shown his musical prowess by doing what so many other’s cant – make a cover sound like his own.
