German-born, Birmingham-based singer-songwriter, Maria Meyers, has come together with Ukrainian charity, Way Home, to raise money for those affected by the invasion of Russia. With a target of £5555, Meyers has released her song ‘Not Alone’, hoping this will be the song to springboard them to their target amount to support those still living in war zones.
With the events in Ukraine making international news, Meyers was so affected by what she had seen she decided to put her feelings into music – 20 minutes later, ‘Not Alone’ was born, with a demo recorded shortly after. After having shown the demo to some friends, they pushed Meyers to make something of the song so it can be played to a wider audience.
Dave McCabe, a friend of Maria Meyers, who has two daughters that attend musical theatre company, Theatirx, had given the demo to Daniel Keaton, the choirmaster for child choir group, Bfourteen. With the demo for ‘Not Alone’, Keaton and the group worked on harmonies and a couple of weeks later, were recording ‘Not Alone’ in Circle Studios in Birmingham. With the talent of Bfourteen and Keaton, as well as a good working relationship between Meyers and McCabe, they thought that this would be a good opportunity to create a video for the song with the help of videographer, Tom.
With the video, the performers were adorned in t-shirts with messages supporting Ukraine, making the already emotional song even more poignant. An idea fitting the song perfectly, executed so well that it moved the control room to tears, it’s an overall piecing together of something worthwhile, creative and massively important. Having been put together quickly, ‘Not Alone’ is coming out 25th November for you to listen to and support. Created in a process of togetherness and compassionate performances, the proceeds will be going to help those in need in Ukraine.
Following the creative success of ‘Not Alone’, Meyer and her friend, McCabe, co-wrote ‘Christmas with You’, set for release on December 2nd. Possibly inspired by their efforts on ‘Not Alone’, this newest release is all about the power of belief in your dreams. With both songs being so current, they both spread a message of hope, love and solidarity, something that is always needed in the world!
