If you’re a fan of great melodies, angelic vocals and memorable lyrics, then Sparky’s Magic Piano are the band for you. Following up their acclaimed 2007 album, ‘Feel the Beat and Do It Anyway!’, the London-based pop-duo are back with a brand-new second album, ‘Never Twice the Same Colour’, coming out on September 9th.
With the release of their lead single ‘Last Supper’ on August 19th, the pair gave us a hint of what was to come, with light, punchy riffs and great vocals, it left fans of SMP eagerly awaiting their first album in 15 years – and after having heard the album, it’s safe to say that Sparky’s Magic Piano have comfortably met people’s expectations. Following up with even more punchy riffs from Oli Bartlett and great vocals from Marion Turnbull, the album has set new standard for the pop-duo, which could see them hit new heights in the near future.
The album is made of a fantastic mix of songs, all made with the unmistakable sound of what Sparky’s Magic Piano are all about. At the heart of each song are great lyrics, sung perfectly by Turnbull but also in duet with Bartlett – song such as ‘Last Supper’ and ‘Albie I Know’ show a great audible chemistry of the two, their individual sounds blend together to create music that is so unique and instantly likeable. Meanwhile, change in pace of the music that’s on offer in ‘Never Twice the Same Colour’ is where they show their musical ability – different styles of music with their unique fingerprint on it, listening through you’d be forgiven for thinking that ‘Last Supper’ and ‘Albie I Know’ were written and recorded by two completely separate bands which is a testament to their range of musical talent. Both are perfect examples of a good music.
The amazing thing about this album, beyond its consistency of music and lyrical content, is that it’s entirely DIY. Made from the pairs shared London home, they’ve managed to not only fit right back in to the music industry, but also to raise the bar for DIY-musicians all over. With consistently great songs, a creative approach and original ideas, ‘Never Twice the Same Colour’ is an album you don’t want to miss. Be prepared for it’s release on September 9th!
